I am always one to keep it completely real, raw and uncomfortable in a way with you guys because as I’ve mentioned in the past: life’s greatest things never come from inside your comfort zone. Recently, I’ve not been feeling the greatest about my body and the way I view it. Normally, I am completely confident in my body image and appreciate all that my body does but I have hard days just like everyone else. And guess what? That’s a completely normal and a valid feeling to have.CONTINUE READING
For those of you who don’t know what “fast fashion” is, it is mass produced clothing sold at a super discount from companies overseas such as, Shein, Romwe, Fashion Nova, etc. Believe me, I know how tempting it can be to purchase 10 items of clothing that are up-to-date with the latest fashion trends for under $100 but long term, the damage that it’s doing to the environment and the workers making these garments are extremely threatening.CONTINUE READING
Picture this- that Disney princess you really love, she’s the one who kisses her prince and wakes him up from a deep sleep to rescue him from the evil villain. Can you picture it? Probably not because women are portrayed as these fragile beings who need to be rescued or saved by a man. Granted, these princess movies were filmed long ago and the times have changed but, when little girls watch these movies they believe that a guy is what they need to be “saved” or that they need to rely on a man for a stable living and they carry this idea around with them for the rest of their lives.CONTINUE READING
I recently had to write a spoken word poem for my creative writing class about a topic that I am really passionate about and I chose to write about body shaming. My class enjoyed it and gave such good feedback that I decided to share it with my followers, whom I think will relate to it even more and appreciate it. So, here goes nothing…CONTINUE READING
Hello, welcome to my page! My name is Tayler May. This is a place where I aspire to spread my creativity and encourage other women to chase their dreams and be comfortable in their own skin.
I post a new blog post every Saturday. I like to mix it up with something related to body positivity, fashion inspiration/tips, travel, lifestyle, beauty, etc. I am always open to suggestions of what you would like to see more of. On my social media accounts (@taylerreneemay on Instagram and Tayler May on Facebook and Twitter) I post outfit inspiration pictures every other day, sometimes more depending on how much time I get that week!
To start with a little bit about me. I’m a sophomore at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, studying marketing and communications. I have always aspired to aim for a career where I can input my creativity and really enjoy what I am doing.
Starting at a young age I was always fascinated with makeup and fashion. As I got older this didn’t change, surprisingly enough. When social media started becoming more popular and I was able to see these beauty and fashion bloggers reaching such a large audience, it made me want to do it as well. Starting June 21st, 2018, I decided to stop sitting behind the sidelines and finally start doing what I set out to do.
As far as the future is concerned, my dream is to move from my small suburb in Metro Detroit to the Big Apple. I traveled to New York City for the first time the Summer after I graduated high school. Instantly, I fell in love but, to be honest, I was in love before I even stepped foot in the famous city. I thrive off seeing different fashion trends worn by a variety of people. The buzz and energy of everyone and everything lights my creative fire.
Where are you located?
I live in a suburb of Metro Detroit about 30 minutes from downtown. I didn’t recently fall in love with the downtown area until recently when I started exploring more with my best friends. There is a stigma about Detroit but generally only the bad parts of the city are broadcasted online. Funny enough, most of my Instagram pictures are shot downtown because it is so beautiful.
Where do you frequently shop?
Since I am a broke college student I love shopping at thrift stores. I love a good pair of “mom jeans” and thrift stores are the perfect place for this (insider tip). Whenever I am traveling I also try to make it a point to go to a thrift store to find something in that place from the past. It is almost like finding a piece of history which is very cool to me.
For new clothes, I love Old Navy and Aerie. Aerie doesn’t photoshop their models or re-touch which is a huge positive to me and makes them very relatable. I love shopping there for some good basics and lounge wear. Old Navy is great for their basics and jeans as well.
Who do you get your style inspiration from?
Sarah Tripp or Sassyredlipstick is one of my favorites. She actually inspired me to be comfortable in my own skin and that I can be fashionable even though I am curvy. I actually met her and her husband, Robbie, in New York City last Summer and they are the kindest, most down-to-earth people ever.
Danielle Carolan is also of favorite of mine. She has a similar style to Aspyn but in a fun, neutral, and creative way. Overall, girly styles are my favorite!
Well… Tayler Renee May is my full name and I always thought it had a nice ring to it. I don’t think a lot of people know my full name because I always grew up with people calling Tayler May thinking May was my middle name. Now that I am creating a platform I figured it was a good time to get people to know my full name!
How can I contact you?
Feel free to DM me on any of my social media accounts! I am @taylerreneemay on Instagram and Tayler May on Facebook and Twitter. You can also contact me through my email, email@example.com! I love hearing from you guys and I try my best to respond to everyone.
