Miami Travel Guide

My friends and I decided we needed a break from school and everything back in Michigan. We made the spontaneous decision to stay a couple of days in the beautiful and SUPER wild Miami. We had a fantastic time and I so wish I was back there now, escaping from reality. I thought I’d share where we stayed, what we did, and where we ate, plus, some things I would recommend skipping. I am looking forward to our next escape away.

Where we stayed: We stayed at the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel in South Beach. It is a beautiful resort filled with many perks. They have a beautiful pool, private access to the beach, complimentary wine and coffee hours, and more. For the price, I highly recommend. It has easy, walking access to many restaurants and shops and is located on a busy street but is quiet in the rooms.

WHAT TO DO: The options are honestly endless for Miami. We didn’t love everything we did just because of how hot it was when we went and how busy it was. However, this is what I suggest.

BEACH: Like I mentioned above, our resort gave us private access to the beach with beach chairs so that was obviously a perk. However, if you stay somewhere else that doesn’t have this access, obviously make a visit to a beach nearby. The beaches are beautiful and the lifeguard towers offer for fun picture opportunities.

THE VERSACE MANSION: A landmark for South Beach, this is one of my TOP recommendations for the area. It may be expensive to eat here but it is so so worth it. The scenery is absolutely stunning and the food was the best meal I had in Miami. You should definitely make sure to reserve a table before visiting though to ensure you’ll get in. They tables fill up fast so be sure to book in advance.

THE FOUNTAINEBLEAU: One of the most luxurious resorts in Miami, we spent the day at. My brother used to play hockey with the owner’s son so we were able to get a cabana and spend the day enjoying the sun, views, and pool. It was super relaxing spending the day there and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

THE DESIGN DISTRICT: This area I would definitely define as the expensive area of Miami. Filled with designer brands and beautiful artwork, you will be feeling bougee, guaranteed. If you browse Tik Tok and have seen the Museum Garage, this is in the Design District as well.

WHERE TO EAT: There are endless options for eating out in Miami. We visited quite and few and quickly learned that eating in this luxurious area is extremely expensive.

BIG PINK: This fun retro-themed diner is a unique spot for brunch. Eating outside with the warmth of the sun hitting your skin is such a vibe. I got their sweet corn tortilla omlette for breakfast and it was devine. 10/10 recommend.

THE LIDO BAYSIDE GRILL: This restaurant is located in the back of a zen-like hotel and spa with stunning ocean views. We visited right at sunset and the views did not disappoint. I would recommend visiting just for this factor. The menu may be small but it is packed with flavor.

THE PALACE BAR & RESTAURANT: This restaurant provides a drag show with your meal. I personally would recommend this place just for that rather than the food. The food was good and definitely one of the cheaper places we went to but the show is what brings the customers. Our show unfortunately got cut short because of an incident with spring breakers but I know it would be worth it.

If you end up visiting any of these places, definitely let me know your thoughts. I am waiting in anticipation for my next vacation with friends because this one was one to remember for multiple reasons.
