How I Stay Productive

I think one of the best feelings for me personally is the idea of being productive. If you saw in my bullet journal blog from two weeks ago, I am tracking my mood everyday for the year and one of the moods I consistently mark down is productive. If everyday of the year I was productive, I would consider it a great year.

However, being productive all the time can be extremely exhausting. I find that whenever I try to relax, it’s very hard for me because I think of all the things I could be doing instead. This is something I’m currently trying to better in 2020. I wanted to share some of my tips for staying productive, though, because I know this is something we can all relate to and struggle with.

EXERCISE: Moving your body and getting endorphins running makes everyone feel better. I don’t think anyone has ever left a workout saying, “I regret doing that.” For me, moving my body in some type of way, pushes me to want to do more work and be productive. Know your body’s limits though. If I’m extremely exhausted I will either skip my workout for that day or just go on a walk.

WRITE IN A PLANNER: I’m the type of person that needs to write things down to remember them. I also love planning and checking things off my to-do list that I planned to do for the day. This is my number one tip for staying productive. If you write down your top three tasks you need to get done for the day, you’ll already feel productive and then if you do extra tasks on top of that, you will feel unstoppable. Try it!

SAY NO TO DISTRACTIONS: Distractions are distracting, hence the name. This could be your phone, your friends, family, Netflix, shopping, etc. When I need to sit down and get things done, I put my phone on ‘do not disturb’ so it doesn’t light up and distract me with notifications. If a friend asks me to hang out or go do something, I will only say yes if I know I don’t have anything to do or have the opportunity to do it another time. Even studying and doing work with friends is sometimes helpful because you can be social but also get work done. Wearing headphones and listening to music is also another tactic I use to get things done because it allows me to tune out everything around me.

Those are my three main tips for staying productive. I want to know if any of you have tips for staying productive too because I am always looking for ways to increase my productivity.

XOXO, Tayler
