My Favorite Spots Outside of Detroit

Not only is downtown Detroit beautiful and a must see but the cities surrounding it are too. If you get the chance to travel outside of the city these are my top three cities to check out.

Outside of the City

Grosse Ile

About 35 minutes away from the city, Grosse Ile is small island located on the border or Michigan and Windsor. Drive along the edge of the island and you will see gorgeous houses with an excellent view of the Detroit River and Windsor. This small island is 15 minutes from my house, so this is another go-to for me to shoot my outfits of the day. The photo below is a bed and breakfast on the island where I like to take photo shots and I also took my senior photos here.

Royal Oak

Also located about 35 minutes away from the city, Royal Oak is another must see. This area is most commonly known for where the Detroit Zoo is located. If you have extra time, that would be another cool spot to stop. Downtown Royal Oak has amazing shopping spots and restaurants. One of my favorite clothing shops down in the main area is a vintage shop called ‘Lost and Found Vintage.’ They have the best vintage finds for all you thrifters out there like me.  All in all, just a really cute place to visit and take EVEN MORE pictures. I also take a lot of my outfit pictures here.

Wyandotte

Wyandotte is a quaint town located also 35 minutes from the city and 15 minutes from my house. In the main strip there are multiple privately-owned restaurants and shops. ‘R.P. Murphy’s’ is a favorite restaurant of mine and my best friend’s so, definitely check it out when you go. If you walk down a bit, you can get good view and pictures of the Detroit River, also.

Ann Arbor

Most commonly known for as the home city to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor is a must see… just maybe not on game day because it gets crazy down there! Because Ann Arbor is a ‘trendy’ college town there are plenty of  cute cafes and coffee shops! Some of my favorites are Fred’s for their acai bowls and super instagram-able interior and I recently found Teaspressa! They are an innovative tea/coffee shop and they were on Shark Tank! Overall, Ann Arbor is another must-see for you foodies and photographers out there! Even if your not a photographer… just a must-see overall.

All in all, these towns are definitely a must see if you visit the Detroit area. They are all unique for their own reasons and part of what makes Metro-Detroit so special. I hope you all enjoyed my little Detroit series but stay tuned for more because I’m always finding new spots in Detroit that I love!
